Bottled Water vs. Tap Water: What Do You Drink? Think Again!
May 20th, 2015
There have been and still are many articles written on this subject by people (mostly in the US but growing numbers in Oz) directly involved in health and well being. They are mostly saying:
Chemicals, contaminants, pollution, and price are reasons enough to rethink what you drink and in quite a few instances to beware of bottled water.
When you think about it, bottled water is everywhere, in offices, airplanes, cafes, homes and restaurants across the country and around the world. We must be consuming billion of litres of the stuff! The frightening thing is they cost more than the fuel (per litre) we put in our cars! Every one of us who drive knows all too well what that cost is.
Mostly these people are saying that bottled water is refreshing, calorie-free, convenient to carry around, tastier than some tap water and a heck of a lot healthier than cordials or some of those new age fancy water! But more and more, people are questioning whether the water, and the package it comes in, is safe or at least safer than tap water—and question ever more loudly, if the convenience is worth the environmental impact.
Of course, some bottled water comes from sparkling springs and other pristine sources. But most comes from a municipal supply. The water is treated, purified and sold to us, often at a thousandfold increase in price. If you mention this to friends and associates most are surprised to learn that they’re drinking glorified tap water! Perhaps we should insist on bottle water manufacturers to list and prove the source on their label. Labels can be misleading at best, deceptive at worst.
There is absolutely no doubt that the best, safest and cheapest water is your own filtered tap water!
